BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the second time in as many weeks, three Camels have taken Big South weekly honors.
After topping Mercer 34-27 on the road, Campbell’s Davarius Bargnare was named the league’s offensive player of the week, Kam Prewitt took defensive player of the week and Hajj-Malik Williams claimed top freshman accolades for the second time this season.
Bargnare hauled in five passes for 121 yards, including his 76-yard third quarter touchdown scamper to give Campbell a 20-13 lead, answering the game-tying Mercer score. Bargnare’s reception was the longest play of the season for the Camels. Bargnare’s 121 receiving yards are the ninth-most by a Camel all-time. He is the first Camel to reach the century mark for receiving yards this season.

Prewitt’s pick-six gave the game its first touchdown Saturday. Prewitt’s 44-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter at Mercer marked the Camels’ first non-offensive TD of the season. It was the 14th pick-six in Campbell’s modern era (since 2008), and Prewitt’s first as a Camel. Prewitt added two tackles and two more pass breakups.

Williams completed 15-of-28 throws for a season-high 266 yards with a touchdown and an interception, tacking on 44 yards on the ground to earn his second Big South Freshman of the Week honor of the year. Williams has now thrown for a TD in each of his first four collegiate games. The rookie helped Campbell put up 279 yards of total offense over its final four drives, including a 41-yard run on its final possession, leading an 11-play, 61-yard march that ran out the final 5:10 of the game.

This is the second straight week that Camels have taken three of the Big South’s four player of the week accolades. Last week, Justice Galloway-Velazquez was tabbed the league's defensive player of the week, while kicker Colin Gary took top special teams honors, and wide receiver Jalen Kelsey was named freshman of the week.
Off to a 3-1 start, Campbell will host Presbyterian to open Big South play Saturday, October 5. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium.
