WASHINGTON, D.C. – Campbell forced three Georgetown turnovers and Rocky Reid churned out 115 yards rushing, leading the Camels to a 13-8 win on the road Saturday at Cooper Field.
The win marked Campbell’s first in its modern era (since 2008) over a Division I nonconference opponent.
In the program’s 11th year, Campbell’s 2-0 start is its third overall, all coming over the last four seasons (2015, 2016, 2018). Georgetown fell to 1-1 with the loss.
The Camels turned two of Georgetown’s three fumbles into field goals in the win. The first, forced by Jamie Gaskins and covered up by Ray Miller, gave Campbell the ball on the Georgetown 32 late in the first quarter. The Camels drove to the Hoya one-yard line before two goal line runs pushed CU back four yards, setting up Colin Gary’s 22-yard field goal.

Out of the halftime break, Campbell drove to the Georgetown 30 before Kingsley Umemba forced a Campbell fumble.
After the CU defense held the Hoyas to a 3-and-out, one of three on the day, Smith rolled out to the left side and found Caleb Snead behind the defense on 3rd-and-10 for a 70 touchdown, giving Campbell the 10-6 lead with 6:16 on the clock.
Three possessions later, Kam Prewitt forced another Georgetown fumble, picked up this time by Dorian Jones, ending a seven play, 53-yard drive for the Hoyas.
Campbell then went on an 11-play march that included nine Reid runs, resulting in a career-long 37-yard field goal for Gary, extending the CU lead to 13-6 with 7:06 to play.
A Campbell safety, however, made it a 13-8 game with just over 4:00 on the clock. Driving to midfield, Damien Dozier strip-sacked Georgetown QB Gunther Johnson and Terence Harper recovered, giving Campbell the ball with 1:34 to go and allowing the Camels to run out the play clock for the win.
Reid ran for 115 yards on 29 carries, the most rushes by a Camel since 2016 (Jared Joyner, 32 vs. Davidson). 89 of Reid’s 115 yards came in the second half. Reid added two catches for eight yards, one of nine Camels to catch a pass on the day. Snead led the way with 98 yards on three grabs, while Aaron Blockmon collected a team-best four catches for 30 yards.

Smith completed 18-of28 passes for 211 yards with a touchdown and an interception, also running for 22 yards.
Jack Ryan paced the Campbell defense with seven tackles, including one for loss, while Levi Wiggins, Dorian Jones, and Kam Prewitt added five apiece.
Johnson completed 17-of-34 passes for 201 yards, including three to Michael Dereus for 76 yards. Jackson Saffold added 49 yards on seven carries for the Hoyas. Wesley Bowers tallied a game-high 18 tackles, including a sack and three stops for loss for Georgetown.
Next up, Campbell travels to FBS member Coastal Carolina on September 15 before returning home on September 22, hosting Shaw at 6 p.m.
