PROVIDENCE, RI – East Carolina senior Shane Carden has been
named the American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week, while also being
selected as one of eight quarterbacks for the Manning Stars-of-the-Week.
The Houston, Texas native led East Carolina (3-1) to its
second-straight win against a top-25 opponent defeating then-No. 25 North
Carolina 70-41 before record crowd of 51,082 inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Carden completed 30 of 48 passes for 438 yards and four
touchdowns while adding a pair of ground scores, which accounted for six of the
Pirates’ 10 scores. For Carden it was his second-straight game with 400-plus
passing yards and fifth 400-yard game of his career.
East Carolina, who entered the national rankings this week
at No. 23 (Associated Press) and No. 24 (USA Today/Coaches Amway) polls, rolled
up a school and American Athletic Conference record 789 yards of total offense
against the Tar Heels.

inaugural American Athletic Conference contest on Oct. 4. A kickoff time and
television broadcast information is expected to be released by conference
officials later this week.
